AUSTIN LAWYER NEWSLETTER
All members of the Austin Bar Association receive a subscription to the Austin Lawyer, which is
published by the Austin Bar Association 10 times per year. Members can also advertise their
practice for as little as $88 per issue. See the publisher's web site for more information on rates,
advertising specifications, due dates and terms. Or, if you prefer, you are invited to submit short
articles on issues within your field of practice for possible publication. For more information on
submitting articles, see the Austin Lawyer home page on the Austin Bar Association web site. What
better way to earn the respect of the Austin Legal Community than to demonstrate your brilliance!
ANNUAL FALL and SPRING SOCIALS
Every year the Solo/Small Firm Section hosts two Socials for members and their families. It's a great
time to get together outside the office and just enjoy great food and the company of some wonderful
people. This year's Fall Social Pot Luck social will be on November 10. For more information on
time and location, see our Activities Page.
SECTION HAPPY HOURS
Several times each bar year, the Solo/Small Firm Section sponsors casual happy hour events after
work at a local establishment. This is a great opportunity to meet with other attorneys in solo or small
firm practice and build your referral network! Light hors d'oeurves are provided and drinks are cash
bar.
UT LAW STUDENT LIAISON
The Solo/Small Firm Section is committed to mutual support and career development. To that end,
the Board of Directors is working on developing a closer relationship with the UT Law School. Our
goal is to provide mentoring opportunities for practicing lawyers and mentors for students entering
the field as solo or small firm practitioners. If you need an intern, summer law clerk or just want to
help, we can put you in touch with the right people.

When you become a member, your name and firm will be added to our on-line directory of members.
It's a great resource for making and receiving referrals from other attorneys in solo / small firm
practice. Just submit your information to Miguel Huerta and make sure you let him know if it's okay to
publish your e-mail address and web site along with your office address. Be sure to tell him what
fields of law you practice too!!
